What to look for when comparing

Two drugs in the same category often treat the same condition, yet their prices can differ sharply because of patent status, the number of competing generics, and how insurance plans rank them on their formulary.

The retail midpoint reflects the middle of the typical pharmacy price range before discounts, while the cash midpoint reflects what you might pay without using insurance. A lower cash price does not always mean “better” — the right choice depends on your own medical needs and your prescriber’s guidance.

This tool is for orientation only. It does not tell you which drug to take, how much to take, or whether one drug is right for you. For that, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. To learn how insurance changes the number you actually pay, compare another pair on the price reference.
